This year’s #IWD.com theme is #EmbraceEquity.
I’m proud of Sport Access Foundation's work to address the inequity of young Australians, including young girls with a disability to access sport. Every year we give between $20,000-$50,000 in sporting grants and receive over 130-150 applications.
We need to do better as so many miss out and we need to do better to reach more of our First Nations youth.
But there’s been a lot to celebrate and in 6 years we have awarded grants to over 75 young people with disabilities so they can go further in their sporting pursuits and access sport on a more equal playing field to their non disabled sporting mates.
Today for #IWD Sport Access Foundation acknowledges 6 outstanding young women to celebrate this #IWD. All are on our SAF Honour Roll and have received the pinnacle Pathway to Paralympic Grant. We start from our inaugural 2017 recipient Ruby Sutherland (para-rowing) to last year’s Abbie Peet (para-athletics).
Two of our Honour Roll have since gone onto represent Australia at the Paralympics. Three are now studying at University, one is co-facilitating masterclass workshops with her coach and two are full time secondary students.
On this IWD we 🙌🙌 their achievements and for inspiring their communities with their leadership and dedication.
