Last night I had the opportunity to share my learnings as a women with disability in the workplace and in sport to Get Skilled Access WILD collective leadership program for women with disability.
This program has been designed by women with disability to bridge the gap between competitive sport and leadership positions.
I’m inspired by the opportunities for young women with disabilities today to close the gap of women with disability currently employed in leadership roles. ‘49.4% of women with disability are employed, compared to all women at 71.6%’ (Get Skilled Access).’
When I started my career in my 20s, I didn’t know any women with disability in leadership roles. 20 years on, thankfully I do now. But there’s still more work to be done.
We spoke about our values and how we are challenged to live up to our values in the workplace or sport when something isn’t right.
There’s still much work to do to ensure people with disability are included and comfortable to ask for the support they need or to speak up when something isn’t right.
Thank you to the #GSA team including Kate Naess (Doughty) PLY Dr Lisa Chaffey ClinScD PLY for the opportunity and it was an honour to be amoung all the women last night - our future leaders.
