I'm proud to be an Ambassador for Inclusion Alliance, a collaborative partnership between Sport Inclusion Australia, Deaf Sports Australia and Blind Sports Australia. which maximises resources, expertise and vast experience over many.
Their goal is to create a positive sporting culture which embraces diversity and effectively includes anyone who wants to participate.
Inclusive Sport is where no-one gets left behind. In my own personal experience, growing up with a profound hearing loss, many times I felt on the outer because the coaches wouldn't communicate with me, and I would miss out.
At a practice level, Inclusion Alliance provides resources and toolkits to inspire Coaches to include all participants. At a more strategic level, Inclusion Alliance works with our National Sporting Organisations to build 'inclusion' into their program.
When an NSO is formulating their new strategy to encourage for example more young girls to play their sport, that same strategy should think about how do we include all young girls - from non english speaking background, indigenous, recent immigrants, and those with disability.
Inclusion Alliance goal is to create a positive sporting culture which embraces diversity and effectively includes anyone who wants to participate.
Through my work as Founder and Director of Sport Access Foundation we provide grants for young Australians with a disability 7-17 years as Our Goal is to remove the barriers to participation in sport compared to their peers without disability. The work of Inclusion Alliance is incredibly important in fulfilling the educational component for National Sporting Organisations to embed inclusion into their programs and clubs. .This is where we can experience change, and with inclusion front and centre, we all incrementally remove the barriers to sport for all marginalised groups and those with disability.
