Today, Katie along with Dr Dinesh Palipana OAM, Lisa Cox had the privilege today, of speaking at an orientation event for students with disability at Griffith University's Gold Coast campus.
The event, hosted by Inclusive Futures: Reimagining Disability and our Student Disability and Accessibility team, is the first event of its kind at Griffith. This trimester, 4,507 of our students have identified as living with a disability, which is 10% of the student population.
As an 18 year old starting at Griffith University I certainly didn’t want other peers to know of my disability. It was a privilege to share this with new students at GU’s Gold Coast campus so that they know that disability is each person’s own experience and that they should never underestimate their right to be heard and represented as they journey through their careers and lived experiences. The panel spoke in the first session of the day and shared their experiences from university and on the value of education. The same event will be held for Brisbane students at our Nathan campus.
